Soccer Goal Buying Checklist

Many soccer goals look alike. However, it is important to evaluate all the aspects of a soccer goal before making any

decisions. Most companies publish the basic specifications in their literature, and Kwik Goal is no different. This should

allow some basic comparisons (price, material, size, accessories included, etc.). Unfortunately, the following details are

usually revealed AFTER a goal is purchased, so makes sure you look into these specific areas before making any decisions.

SAFETY AWARENESS

Yes No

( ) ( ) 1. Does the product meet ASTM standards in all field conditions?

( ) ( ) 2. Are all warning/safety labels affixed to goal when purchased? Including labels with a goal does not guarantee

that maintenance personnel or volunteers will apply them properly or even apply them at all.

( ) ( ) 3. Can the goal post be easily inspected by officials or coaches prior to the game without moving the goal or using a

step ladder? Are all fasteners visible?

( ) ( ) 4. Does the product have sharp edges? Particularly near the playing area?

( ) ( ) 5. Does the weight factor of the goal pose a problem in moving or storage?

( ) ( ) 6. Does the product have child entrapment or potential pinch points?

Comments/notes:______________________________________________________

ANCHORING

( ) ( ) 8. Is the goal “field surface friendly” if being utilized on synthetic turf? Is bottom smooth so it does not damage the

synthetic surface when the goal is moved? Is the goal resting on a level surface? Are surface appropriate anchors available?

( ) ( ) 9. Will the anchoring system included with the goal function in all soil or field conditions?

( ) ( ) 10. Do the assembly instructions include directions on how to test your goal after anchoring to make sure it meets

all standards?

( ) ( ) 11. Have there been options added to the goal so that alternative anchoring system can be applied?

Comments/notes:______________________________________________________

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

( ) ( ) 12. Are the wheel options that are available functional and are there loose parts when moving them? Example, you

should not have to remove or replace fasteners when putting down or lifting wheels?

( ) ( ) 13. Is there more than 1 bolt at each joint so there is always a safety backup at the joint?

( ) ( ) 14. Is there proper overlap length (at least 3 inches) for parts that telescope together?

( ) ( ) 15. Are manufacturing imperfection hidden by paint coating (i.e. wrinkle finish)

( ) ( ) 16. Has a wrinkle finish been put on the product to cover up imperfections in manufacturing?

( ) ( ) 17. Are all parts through-bolted so the goal can’t come apart even if fasteners become loose? Example, even though

a set screw is in place, the associated parts may not be properly connected.

( ) ( ) 18. Is a high quality finished used (i.e. powder coated)?

Comments/notes:______________________________________________________

EASE OF ASSEMBLY

( ) ( ) 19. Can the goal be put together using simple hand tools only, or are power tools and special expertise required for

safety?

( ) ( ) 20. Are there many small parts to assemble?

( ) ( ) 21. Can multiple goals be easily broken down for storage and be reassembled using parts from a like-model goal?

Example, some companies require the customer to drill holes in each goal to finish assembly; failure to put a part back in the

same goal and even the same side will prevent the goal from being put back together.

( ) ( ) 22. Does the design allow the goal to be disassembled in sections for storage and ease of reassembly?

( ) ( ) 23. Are comprehensive instructions provided with the goal?

Goal Keeper Glove Sizing Guide

Let's face it; buying most fitted items online is harder than one would think. All manufacturers have their own sizing and slight variances to cause an item like gloves to fit different. There is a general method to finding your glove size which is listed below in an easy step by step process. This step by step process is also on every goalie glove page. Also, there are more detailed attributes of the glove sizing listed underneath the picture of the gloves. Feel free to browse our selection of gloves http://www.authenticsoccer.com/soccer-goal-keeper-gloves.aspx

step1 Measure the circumference of the fullest part of the palm, excluding the thumb.

step2 Round up to the next highest inch. Then add 1 to the measurement to determine your glove size: (ex. 8" + 1 = 9) Thus 9 would be the glove size.
step3 Measure both hands to determine if one hand is bigger than the other. Take the bigger size and open up our size chart and find the corresponding glove size. This size is very generic, you must do one more step.
step4 Look down the list of the gloves attributes to see the specific sizing of the product. If a glove runs a "half size small" then move up to the next size. Remember: Goalkeeping gloves should be worn big, as much as 1.5" over the length of your fingers.

Colors Of A Soccer Fanatic

Soccer fanatics bleed the colors of their team. All the colors of a club, city or country are specifically chosen for their symbolic meaning that roots back to the begining. I have found

Black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery.

White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the color of perfection.

Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love.

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.

Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety.

Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.

Soccer is a game of passion and of history. When we see these colors in a teams new kit, it usually brings up some type of emotion. This is what some of the major brands are trying to do today. The designer of a jersey will look deep in to the teams past and also the city or countries past as well to design a jersey that pays tribute to both the team and its founding city or country.

So there is a reason after all for all these crazy colors and designs.

Injury in the run of play

This past Sunday July 6th my team had a match in the middle of the day. The game time was changed to 12 noon because we all had to share one field. So I had to change some family time events around so that I could get a little run in at the park and help my team out. We loaded up the car with our son's wagon and toys to keep him occupied while I played. About 5 minutes after I got to the field the referee blew his whistle to get the game started. Everything seemed to be so rushed and last minute up to this point and previous to leaving the house I almost did not want to play but once that whistle blew I was ready to play and was very happy to be out of the pitch knocking the ball around. Our opponent quickly went up two goals to nil and at 15 minutes my game was done. I went into a challenge with another play which I felt was more in my favor. Without even thinking of a risk of collision I tried to clear the ball out of our defending third. As soon as I swung for the ball I noticed the opposing player was a bit closer than expected so I made sure to position my leg to reduce the risk of injury. For some reason the once 65/35 ball favored in my direction now was a closer challenge. I felt as though I got wacked in the shinguard as I felt pressure in my shin just on the inside of my shin. But I was confident that I would be OK because the opposing player hit my shinguard. I fell to the ground in a bit of pain from the collision and held my leg waiting for the sting to go away.... The sting never went away! I heard a teammate call to my wife to dial 911. I knew that something had gone wrong with the previously thought easy challenge. Both of the bones in my leg were broken. The tibia and fibula bones both had a clean break and my leg was just kind of hanging out on the ground. My knee was pointed straight up in the air but my foot was somehow laid on its side. I was put on display for about a half hour for all the people at the park to look at my injury as I waited for the ambulance. Well 4 days in the hospital a titanium rod and some great care from my wife later I am writing this to you. This game we call soccer can be very painful and there is no shinguard that could ever stop the force that my body took that day. Although shingaurds can help a great deal and any shinguard is cheaper than an x-ray. You can never really know what is going to happen so I say just wear as big a guard as possible. Anyway that is my story. Let us know if you have had any similar situations or what shinguards you wear that have saved you from going in to see the doctor.

Will It Be 3 In A Row For Inter?

This weekend will determine the Scudetto holder.  Inter is two points clear of Roma.  If the Gods shall favor Roma then we will have a new champion.  I feel like Inter is strugling to keep the ball out of it's own goal and droping attainable points.  Roma seems to be picking up speed.  If the champions can get all 3 points then it's their's for the 3rd year in a row.  Personally I have enjoyed the late surgence and attacking play of Roma, and on top of it they are minus there tallismanic figure in Totti.  Vuchinic has stepped up and shown his class to replace Capitano Totti.

I believe Inter will get the necessary result and will retain the title.  However if Inter had to play Roma in a head to head competition, I feel like Roma would have the AzzuroNeri scrambling and picking the ball out of their own net.

Oh,...wait a minute.......Copa Italia? They will be pitted against each other.  Surely Roma will grab some silverware there.

Ciao,

 TAM
